    Default Sashing and quilting

When you have sashing in a quilt top do you actually quilt on the sashing or leave it plain. I know if I don't quilt inside the sashing I would need to quilt right up to the sashing. Thanks for your help.

I think it's a matter of choice. I've seen it done both ways. Course an edge-to-edge design would go right over the sashing.

I have done it both ways. It is a matter of choice as quiltsRfun said. I've done cross-hatching on one of my sashings for extra interest in a baby quilt and to strengthen it because baby quilts get washed so often. Have fun with it! It's your quilt...do what you desire to with it! :-)

    Unless I do cross-hatching I don't quilt on sashing.

You will find that your responses to this question will be widely varied. You can do it either way. I always do some sort of quilting on the sashing especially if the quilt will be washed a lot. The only exception for me is when I do a wall hanging.

Depends on how wide the sashing is. If it's wide, I like to quilt it.

I stitch in the ditch on either side of the sashing and then usually do a simple design in the sashing.

Add to this: it depends also on the pattern of the blocks being sashed and the effect you want.

Personally, I like the sashing quilted by itself but have also quilted over it when doing an all over quilting. SID isn't enough for me.

I always quilt the sashing, but I find most designs take it out of square. So I try to do straightlines on my sashing if square is very important.

    That's what I think too.
