I have a Singer and when I put the material under the presser foot, if its not thick, like two or three layers, my materials gets caught and goes down into the presser foot. Its VERY frustrating. Does anyone know how I can sew different or correct this?

Make sure that you don't have the edge of the fabric too near the hole on the needleplate, and change your needle to make sure it's sharp...make sure the needle is an appropriate size for the weight of the fabrics that you're sewing.
HTH! :)

Sew just a few stitches from the end and then sew back over. T fabric goes through every time for me when I do that.

Sharon, try starting sewing on a folded piece of fabric, let that run through and then after a couploe of stitches "in the air" put in the pieces you want to sew together. You should also run off onto this scrap of fabric. I think this will make your sewing easier, and more fun, no more bird's nests underneith. I believe that there is a tutorial here about chain piecing that could help you with this problem.

I made a tute for this  and also try the other suggestions too :D:D:D Sometimes you may need to purchase a needle plate with a small round hole for piecing, instead of using the one with the multi purpose slot. Some machines come with these.

the trick I use if to hold the thread towards the back before starting to sew, and then start slow...it is very frustrating. Some people use a small scrap of fabric but I don't like to fool with it....
