    Default Bargello using 2" strips?

All the patterns for bargellos call for using 2-1/2 strips. I have a GO! and a 2" strip die. Will the patterns work using 2" strips? I hate to buy a 2-1/2" die. If it will work, what kind of adjustments in the patterns must I make?

I'm sure someone with more experience will come along, but I would think it would be fine to use the 2 inch strips and just adjust everything else accordingly. I personally would manually cut strips so I could just follow the pattern and not do any adjustments. Good luck.

Without seeing the pattern you are considering, it's hard to say what additional adjustments need to be made. Might be as easy as cutting your strata into 2" strips instead of 2.5", but it could be a whole lot more complicated. In this case, I would use the strip width called for in the pattern.

Without making any other adjustments, using 2" strips will make the finished quilt much shorter but the same width (I think it is that direction)....but either way you will be losing 1/2" from each piece.....if your quilt is 40 pieces long and each piece is 1/2" shorter, then you are losing 20"....it will really skew the bargello pattern....somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

That Bargello Book by Piecemakers using 2" strips:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=the+...utf-8&oe=utf-8

I haven't been in contact with them for over a decade but they twice photographed my bargello quilts to use in their book.

Thanks for recommending this booklet - I just ordered it and will look forward to seeing your quilts!

Most of the bargello patterns I've seen are repeats of the design. I would think if using a thinner strip you would just make more of the strips.

There is no reason you can't use 2" strips.

This is true. You might need to make more strip sets to get the quilt the size you want, and your design might be "tighter," but two inch strips would work just fine. The one I am doing now calls for 1 1/2 inch strips...

thanks to those who said i could use 2" strips because i have a boat load of them already cut just waiting for a project. manually cutting strips is not an option for me.
