I want to make some labels for the quilts I am doing but have no ideas on what to do. I looked at the premade ones, (that come in a book) but I only liked a few of them and didn't want to spend $8 for a BOOK of them only to use 2.

So if you label/sign your, how do you do it? Pictures would be lovely ;-)

I have a friend make mine in her store. They cost a few dollars but are guaranteed to never fade. I like the way they look.

usually I just embroider into the backing, or on to a label and then stitch it to the backing.

I get mine from a board member here, her name is jajudd24 and does nice work, she also has a blog to show the things that she can embroider, and great prices, you can send her a private message (pm) and let her know what you would like and she can get them made for you on her embroidery machine, tell her that craftybear sent you to her

i just used some duck cloth and put a border made out of some of the fabric that was in the quilt. This was for a quilt that my aunt made and I finished. I also put as much family history as i can -including dates. This would not be washed much anymore.


btw - i just scribbled out the more personal stuff for here, but you get the idea!

This is the first label I made. I just used the lettering that came with my machine. I backed a piece of muslin with wash away iron on stabilizer, used a narrow zigzag stitch for the outline of the bear, and then hand sewn onto the back. I used me seam ripper along the edge of the zigzag and it work great for getting the bear out of the square.

Although, I have just finished a quilt that I am entering into the local quilt show here in Madison Heights and I have decided to do something different. Haven't completed it yet, so I can not show you the pictures.

I use iron-on transfers, buy them at the dollar stores, or I go to free colouring pages and print out something that reflects the quilt. I use crayons to colour the pictures and pigma pens to write the info. I also will print a picture of the receipient on fabric and then add the info. With any of these methods, you have to remember to heat set it with a hot iron. Here are two that I have done.
