I am making my first quilt. This is a crib sized quilt and I must say, this is WAY more fun than I expected it to be. I know I'm going to want to make more quilts after this but have read some about people sending out their quilts because they don't have a long arm. Is that necessary to make a King sized quilt? My bed is a King and I would really like to make a quilt for it.

I don't think a king size quilt will fit in the neck of a regular sweing machine to quilt it.

It depends on what type of quilting you want on it. A Stitch in the ditch or Diagonal quilting and some other free motion quilting can be done on a standard sewing machine. I have quilted about 10 queen size on my regular size machine. Granted the quilting is not fancy but I did it. It is tough, it takes a long time, but it is doable.

I just finished doing a queen on my Kenmore. Right now I am just doing very simple quilting. SID, and diagonal lines.

Oh good!! I was so afraid it was going to be impossible. I'm not jumping that far in yet, I've got to do the kid's first so that will be some twin sized. But good to know that it is doable. Thank you!

I am in the process of preparing one using the "low fat" method from this book. I did try a few methods on scraps and like this one the best. I hope to be doing some actual quilting on it this coming weekend. I'll post again and let you know the results. :)

You can always do a fun and done quilt and make it king size. There are several tutes on the net to watch. The sell books and rulers for making them but you don't really need the ruler once you see how they are made.
