I have several large throw sized quilt tops and need backing. It seems excessive to seam 44" wide fabric for a 48 x 72" quilt. Are there any sources for 60" cotton? That would be a perfect fit for these projects but I'm at a loss for where to get it.

ETA: I'm looking for prints, not solid broadcloth.

Look for scrubs fabric. Usually this is 58 to 60 inches. Watch the content, however, some is 100% poly, some 100% cotton, and some are blends.

you can find wider fabrics sold as backing. I like to look at

I have not seen 60 inch wide fabric very often. Muslin comes to mind.

A lot of Home dec fabric is 54-60 wide, some are 100 percent cotton, and a closer/tighter weave than others. I have used Home Dec fabric on the back of several quilts.

Why not use 45" & piece twice? First piece is 45x60. Second pieces are 20x30's sewn on the 20" side. It's a little more work but a lot less fabric. Works great

Several places sell 108" wide quilting cotton for backing and that would give you enough for two quilts of the size you have. Look at fabrics.com and thousandsofbolts.com and the fat quarter shop.

I like Jeanne S suggestion of using 108" backing and splitting it. This would also give you the extra inches needed in the width for quilting.

Piecing your backing using left over fabrics from the front works well in these situations.
