Sticker Shock, took sewing machine in for maintenance
#51
In this area we only have one repairman, that is kind of reliable. The other one oiled a motor and it ended burning up. I won't go back to him. The reliable one lets younger ones repair most of them. The last time I took both my machines in the came home dirty, and a list of things they did did to them. No parts, had a bur somewhere and a small piece of thread somewhere. I clean the bobbin area everytime I change the bobbin, put a drop of oil on the race, oil every so often. It cost 89.00 for each, they never seem busy, I think they do everyone the same.

Quality Sew & Vac here charges $169. for a standard service for any machine. I was really shocked so I called a local quilt store and they suggested someone they ALWAYS use who charges $40. I would not hesitate to take their recommendation. Call your local quilt stores and see if they can suggest someone who knows what he/she is doing and won't charge an arm and a leg.

I had my Bernina 1090 serviced recently in Greencastle, PA at" Stitch in Time' and I only paid $80.00. It is not a computerized machine but it was worth the 50 minute drive from Winchester. Great service and I got pointed to a neat fabric shop called Marians where I spent what I saved on fabric!
