I would suggest Thermore (that is polyester batting made for clothing). If you really want wool, what about Quilter's Dream (http://quiltersdreambatting.com/dream-wool.html), which they say has a low loft ( Soft Loft of 1/3 - 1/2" ).

How are you planning on quilting the batting? You have to attach it to a layer or it will bunch around and lump. You might think about putting a thin layer in a sandwich with silk. Quilt the silk sandwich, then use that as the insulating layer.

My plan was to stitch it to the inside liner, then attach the inner and outer liners together. I'm not sure though.
I have help... she's very experienced, unlike me!
