    I just tied a quilt this weekend. I use the larger skein of DMC that people use for crewel embroidery (it's 27 yds). Works great and looks good. I always tie with a square knot and a half hitch thrown on top for good measure...

    Me too. I have also used crochet cotton-doubled-and they have held up well over the years. When I used embroidery floss it sometimes came untied in the wash.
