I'm making a wall hanging for my 6 yr. old granddaughter. The pattern was a freeby from Allpeoplequilt.com. I now have 9 rows that need to be sewn together, then the border will be added. I read somewhere here on the QB that you should sew one row in one direction and the next in the other direction to avoid rippling. Is that true? If anyone can advise, I'd appreciate it. I have never heard of it but it sounds like a good idea and wouldn't be hard to do. Go for it and let us know how it turns out.

that is true when sewing strips together- like 2 1/2" strips or strips for bargello quilts- you need to stitch two together- then start at the bottom and add the next, start at top for next ect. with pieced blocks it is not important to reverse - normally you are locking seams together and do not have long strips that may become distorted

I believe that is mostly for when you are strip piecing something. If you have seams that will lock against each other you don't have to worry about it as much.

It's true when you are strip piecing but I do it for everything.

I do it for strips. Use 2 pins to show the side that I just finished.
