Wait! The wrinkles created may be wonderful. You never know. But definitely wash it before you give it to anyone.

I would NEVER wash a quilt top. You will just have a horrid mess with all the unraveled threads. YIKES, what a mess you will have,

I recently aquired a pieced top from a thrift store. It had a horrible smell. I washed on soak cycle, put in dryer no problems. Good luck with your top

i would wash when done and id use cotton batting just my favorite batting
