Bearisgray asked if anyone bought WM fabrics.

I read 15 pages of comments and couldn't reply because it got locked.

I just want to say I am in Naples Florida and very lucky because 2 out of 3 WM's here, are keeping their fabric departments.

Not long ago BellaBoo wrote (Quilting Board.com May 13 edition) about the WM quilt of the month including a free pattern made by David Textiles and another group of fabrics by A E Nathan that were not necessarily offered each month.

I discovered that one of my WM's carried the BOM and was able to buy the "Memories" materials...pattern was free. it was 2.97 a yd and great fabric (my opinion only). One of the fabrics was gone and both BellaBoo and Piledriver offered to get it for me....when I put out a request for help in getting it. Piledriver was able to get it and she sent it within a couple of days of my request.....So I send big thanks to both of them for their good info and help. I hope they will be reading this.

All of you who want to write to WM can go to www.Wallmart.com. i wrote and they sent me the same letter they had sent to other people.

I hope my info is of some help to those of you interested in WM fabric....hugs to all...swimer girl

My walmart gave up the fabric department :(
The next closest Walmart in Bangor has too!
Luckily I'm left with a Marden's which has a wonderful supply of salvaged stock in brand names and fantastic prices. I'm told that numerous quilters show up there, buy supplies and resell on ebay.

I am really curious to know why one does and another one does not. We have a relatively new Wal-mart that does carry it. Then, the older one (right across from Jo-Anns) stopped carrying it. Could it be the proximity to a local store or is it just random?

I really feel for those in small towns that lose their Wal-Mart fabric departments. At least those of us in bigger cities usually have another place to get fabrics.

When it was announced that Walmart would be going out of fabrics, it was only the Walmarts that had a LQS within a 50mile radius. Well....that let's my Walmart out, but they took the fabric away anyhow. :(

IMHO, I can't see that having a LQS in the area would seriously hurt Wal-Mart's fabric business. They don't sell the same merchandise, and they definitely have different price points! A place like JoAnns probably does provide competition.

I think it must depend on the volume of sales that the fabric/craft department in a particular store generates, that depends on whether they will still keep the fabrics when they remodel the store.

It's probably all about the bottom line. If they can make more money with that floor space, selling something *other* than fabric, then that's what they will do.

    You got that right!

After researching what I could, the conclusion I reached is if you have a WalMart that does sell David's Textile fabric for the Quilt of the Month, you are getting good quality fabric for less then $3 yard.
