    Hi folks, n000000bie here :)

My mother made me a stunning quilt just before she passed away nearly 10 years ago. And only now have I got a place to have the quilt on display so everyone can enjoy it.

The place I have in mind gets NO natural light so UV protecting it shouldnt be a problem.

How does one go about mounting it on the wall (preferably without sewing tags onto it)? its approx 66" square, I'll get some piccies of it up ASAP.

    Many Thanks

    Stuart

I would sew a sleeve on the back (cut an 8" thick piece of fabric, by the width of the quilt, hand whip on)

Then, use a decorative curtain rod, hang it on the wall.

There are 2 types I am thinking off that will not have to be sewn

This is the only one I could find at the moment. Good Luck!

I hang my quilts by mounting a curtain rod on the wall. I use the kind of rod that uses rings with little clips on the end. I clip the quilt to the rings.
I like this method because I can change quilts easily for seasons or Holidays. Maxine

This is a beautiful and special quilt.

The best way to hang a quilt is with a hanging sleeve. This will be the least impactful to the fibers in the fabric as it supports the weight evenly across the width of the quilt.

Here is a link to the way I do this.

And dont leave your quilt hanging for years on end,...take it down to rest every month or so.

I just recieved the new Goodhouskeeping magazine and it has a picture of pants hangers holding pictures on the wall.
This would work for quilts also. They show 3 pictures hung with wooden pants hangers that are 6 for $7 at the bed and bath stores.

I worked on a king size denim quilt for my brother-in-law (more like a son) for 3 years. I am a newbie also. I gave it to him. Now he wants to hang it. I made it for him to use on a bed to keep him (someone) warm. My feelings are hurt. The lease impact to the fabric is put it on a bed.
    But, this is just me.

Sharrelg, What a compliment that your BIL wants to hang your quilt on the wall!!!! Hope, hope, pray, pray, that someday someone, anyone, will want to hang up something that I've made. I've even seen one of my wallhangings folded up in the bottom of the cat's bed - wrong side out!!!! Same thing with a lap quilt that I made, wrong side out on the side of a chair. Think someone's trying to tell me something??????

Hi Slindborg, you're right - that quilt that your Mom made for you is stunning. How lucky you are to have it! And displaying it on your wall is quite a tribute.
