I just started a diamond shapes GFG. My centres are white, I plan on making two of each jewel tone color diamond. They seem small, I'll need at least a gizillion. Should I do two rows around my centre eg white centre with two rows of purple, then a row of green ( my pathway). Just got back from the Yuma quilt show. There was a vender there selling the plastic hexagons. Her diamonds had two rows around her centre. Her's were all different (scrappy). Any ideas on how to get my diamonds bigger.

One way to get a bigger diamond is to start with a larger templet or add additional rows around. Do a couple of samples to test size and pattern.

Figure out how large your quilt will be - including how many rows & blocks to equal the width and length. Take your diamonds and enlarge them so that they will not have to be so many. Adding extra rows may be nice too since you are only using two - my rule of thumb is never an even number. You can also add borders around the finished product to enable you to do less little diamonds. Try either way...you just may love it! There are diamond rulers in any fabric store that should be able to help you a bunch! Good luck!

Are you doing hexagons and putting them in a diamond shape? or using diamond shape templets? If you are doing hexagons, I think it might be nice to use 2 rows of color around the white center, then the green path. I have not done a diamond shape hexagon yet, but it is going to be my next project. You might like this site. http://hexagonquilt-along.blogspot.com/ There is lots of ideas there. What size are your templets? I use 1 inch. Not fond of the larger sizes. Personal preference of course. Have fun!!!

Sorry not to get back to this topic. Think my puter is now good to go. Yes humbird, you have it right/ Unfortunatly I've discovered on a lot of my diamonds I won't have enough fabric to do two diamonds (I have done) & two rounds. So I will do one round of white around all my blocks & then the green pathway.Similar too you avater.I'd love to see a bigger picture of your GFG.
