My 1955 Singer Featherweight ( which I use to piece all my tops ) doesn't have an automatic thread cutter LOL. I hope you find the problem.

I think it may be time to take Brother to the Doctor for a check-up.

So sorry That your bobbin system looks eaten! My guess is it will have to be replaced. Not sure if it has anything to do with the cutter.

Just a note: My dealer advised strongly (forbid) against titanium needles. They are stronger than the metal in the bobbin system and can cause serious damage. I purchased embroidery needles and in very small print along the side of the case it stated the needles were titanium.

When my thread cutter quit, I had to take it to the shop and they had to order the part.

Does that warning pertain to all sewing machines or just certain brands. I know I have some titanium needles and do not want to create a major problem by using them.

Check with Brother first and see if it is still covered. If not, have someone else look at it.

My blade is camouflaged next to the bobbin case. I didn't know it was there until I took my user classes, and the teacher showed us how to clean it. It is hidden inside a felt lined casing. I know how to gently lift the blade up and clean the lint off of it, and around the casing. I do that whenever I have a problem with it not cutting the threads cleanly.

I found a diagram of your thread cutter...looks like there are TWO blades, one is moveable, on is fixed...sounds like you found the moveable one. I would try a drop of oil on the moveable blade that's sticking in the out position, and if that doesn't help, then compare it to the diagram and see if it was bent.

You need a new bobbin holder yesterday. The pad that is missing is where cutter comes across. Without the plate cover and bobbin and needle in, press the cutter. You will see it come from the left to the right. Your dealer should have one on hand to sell you. Under $10.

That happened to my daughters machine and we added one drop of oil to the cutter while it was extended and it fixed it. Wouldn't hurt to try.
