I think the outside of the quilt will probably wear out faster than any of the good modern batts. I have not used it, but I've read the description of MicroSafe batting sold by JAF online. It claims that " MicroSafe fiber provides continuous control of the growth of bacteria, fungi, mold, mildew and yeast. MicroSafe creates clean, sanitary conditions, making it ideally suited for bedding products. The elimination of microbial growth reduces odors, staining and textile product degradation. MicroSafe is very safe and will not wash out." This makes me think it would be ideal for kids and critters, as well as hospitals.

With my big fuzzy buddy( in my avatar) , I use warm and natural or warm and white for quilts in my home. I wash the quilt on my bed weekly and it still in great shape. I agree that the fabrics will probably fade and wear long before the batting does.

I also vote for Dream Green for utility quilts. Holds up well and is good for the environment!

One thing to think about. Quilts with cotton batting are HEAVY when wet. If manhandling them from the washer to the dryer is a problem for you, go with polyester since you will be washing frequently. Otherwise, I think they are all pretty good. It's just a matter of the look you want and what you like to work with.
