    Default What batting....

I have dogs and cats so I know if I ever manage to finish a lap quilt the critters will also being "using" them. Since my dogs and cats will be on and under the quilt, it will have to be washed frequently. What batting would you guys recommend for a quilt that would be washed at least a couple times a month?

    Thanks!

Most of my quilts have Hobbs 80/20 in them now and they have hold up well but I don't wash them too often. Back in the day, I made all my nieces and nephews quilts with poly/ cotton fabrics and 100 % polyester Mountain Mist batts. They are still going strong some 20 year later. It will depend on how you want to quilt them. Polyester batt is harder to FMQ than 80/20 in my opinion.

I realize that it may brand me a "Philistine," but I really like poly batting. It's sturdy, warm, and washes well. There, I've said it!

I have a quilt that believes that all quilts are for her. I've made her quite a few and they get washed over and over. I use Warm and White and it hold up very well. Love it.

Warm and natural. I think even if all the fabric from a quilt has disintegrated over time the Warm and Natural batting will be left.

I would use poly for two reasons, first it dries faster and it tends to hold its' shape better.

My 3 dogs much prefer me to use poly batting. It must be warmer than Hobbs 80/20. So if the quilt is for 2 legged critters Hobbs if for 4 legged then poly. Slowly if they have their own they stay off mine sometimes.

Polyester battings tend to last well. I really like the "Dream Green" batting for the (utility) quilts I make... The ones the kids drag around everywhere, making forts, camping, picnics, travel, sleepovers... They have lasted well through frequent laundering & much love/use

I think any of the major brands of batting such as W&N or Hobbs will hold up with the frequent washing. I made both of my Westies their own quilts which were washed frequently and had no problems using Hobbs 80/20.

A group of sewers that I belong to, we make dog beds and we use quilters scraps to stuff our beds with. Amazing how many tiny little scraps that friends will provide you with when asked.
