I agree that sometimes it is hard to get all of the seams to match, but perfection is not everything. Making the quilt for someone you love is the most important thing to think about. I have used muslin many times for the back of my quilts. I love to be able to see the stitching on the back and it shows up well with muslin. Buy a good grade of muslin though because some of it can be pretty flimsy.
Is the snow a solid white or a pattern? Is it all cotton? Ive seen some say they use cotton- linen blend for sashing material, some cotton, some cotton/linen blends...??

Looking at the pic of your pattern; I'd use a 100 percent cotton, regular fabric, maybe a tone on tone in white. :D

I like Kona whites because they are not as see through as other white fabrics. JoAnns is a good place to get your fabric, especially if you use their 50% off coupon on the larger cuts. Fabric Depot is another place with pretty good prices and they carry a lot of Kona and backing fabric in wide widths, too.

I like to order from keepsakequilting because the representation of their colors is right on. Never been disappointed but they are not inexpensive.

The pattern will tell you how much fabric you need but it may be hard for a newbie to pick the colors that match. Do you mean you'll make an all-white quilt or the base is white? Or do you mean the backing will be white?

My favorite batting is Warm and Natural or Warm and White. It handles beautifully, is comfortable to use BUT it is low loft.

As for the backing, there are some nice fabrics available in a variety of colors and patterns that measure wide enough for backing (conveniently called backing fabric). Some people like to use sheets - I am not one of them.

An online source I recommend heartily is www.Fabric.com and they are wonderful to speak with, too. You can pull up their site on your computer and call the 1-800 number and they will walk you right through whatever you need to find there. They have high-quality fabrics at low prices, and shipping on all orders over $35 is free.

I was unable to see the quilt you referred to in your link; it appears to have several different quilts in the photo; maybe I didn't do it quite right? Anyway, I think you've got some pretty good advice already here; keep asking questions and we'll be glad to help however we can!
