what do you wash fabric with?

I use regular inexpensive laundry detergent, a stain rag and cold water. Then I put it in the dryer. That's all. Comes out fine all the time. If I am making a big quilt, I go down to the laundromat and use the gentle cycle and cold water and my cheap laundry detergent and my stain rag and dry it in a medium dryer. That's all I do - 20 years and no problem!!!! Edie

For my everyday laundry needs, I use Norwex which you can purchase online or at a party like Pampered Chef, etc. While the directions say to use more, I was told a teaspoon is enough for a normal load while half a teaspoon is fine for a small load. The reason is that unnecessary "fillers" are not used, and you need less detergent. I have used it for almost two years now and I love it. Once I discovered dryer balls, I stopped using fabric softeners. The clothes dry faster and are not as wrinkled as they used to be. I have no involvement with Norwex except as a customer.
When washing lap quilts before gifting them, I use cold water only.

I don't use dryer sheets as I feel they can leave a residue. What I use in place of dryer sheets are the balls that you can get that replace the sheets. I've had mine at least 5 years so they are a money saver also, and they're just like new.

I wouldn't use anything but unscented, but wondered how others treat their fabrics and what they use. I do think the brand matters, its not just unscented. If you do a google search for toxic chemicals in laundry detergents, Tide and Gain even unscented are at the top of the list. ALL has less of the bad stuff.

I use my regular laundry soap. I also always use white vinegar in my rinse cycle (like fabric softener) in my softener cup in my washer. It cuts all the soap from the fabric and helps keep my washer innards clean with every wash (I have a front load washer)
