I was reading the instructions I am using for making a set of placemats and it says to place the backing wrong side up, then the batting and then the quilt top. Does this mean that the back of my placemats will not be pretty? The instructions call for using the backing to bind the mats also but I don't think I am going to do that. I would like for them to be reversible.
Can I put the sandwich together with the right side of the backing out so it will be pretty? Will my quilting stiches show up on both sides? Am I making this harder than it has to be?
    Thanks Betsy

The reason is says wrong side up, is because when you "bind" a quilt sandwich, you don't make seams and turn it back rightside out. You simply bind the raw edges, with the batting sandwiched between the top and backing, and so both "right" sides are already showing. Both sides will be pretty, and it will be reversible.

If you're going to skip the binding and seam the front and back, like a pillowcase, then turn it rightside out, then yes, you will put the "right" sides together.

Ok I SO totally understand. Thank you so much. I know it's silly but I get confused between wrong side up, right side up, wrong sides toghether, right sides together.....all those wrongs and rights get me going in opposite directions.
Thank you sooo much for your help. You made it quite clear and thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I got the answer I needed before I even left to go shopping!
    You guys are the greatest!!!!!
