I bought a jelly roll in February of fabric that I loved. Well now here it is July and I am just getting around to the quilt... and I have decided that I want to make a bigger quilt than I originally was thinking. I went to purchase another Jelly roll, but the jelly rolls are sold out. No problem I just bought some yardage - I can cut my own strips. BUT I never wash jelly rolls before I use them, and I ALWAYS wash yardage before I use it. So I am thinking maybe I won't wash my yardage before I use it with my jelly roll. Would that be the right way to do it?

Yes! I would not wash the fabric. I would starch all of it before sewing, just me.

Are the fabrics from the same line?

If so, treat both groups the same.

(I would wash EVERYTHING - and then cut the additional yardage to match whatever the jellyrolls ended up being)

I would treat both groups the same also. I would hand-wash the jelly roll fabrics Doesn't have to be an elaborate process - just swish them around in warm water with a few drops of detergent. Rinse well, and hang to dry. Or else place them in mesh bags that are made for washing lingerie/ other delicate items.
Wash the yardage the way you normally would.

I wouldn't wash anything. Washing a jelly roll just sounds like an opportunity for some sort of mishap....raveling comes to mind the most.

yes they are the same line.. and I do think I need to treat both lots of fabric the same. I just never wash jelly rolls so I was stumped Thank you for your replies

I don't think there would be any problem mixing the washed and unwashed fabric, but I would need to know more before deciding to wash the jelly roll. Do the chemicals in unwashed fabric give you any problems? Do you suspect that the dyes in the fabrics might run? Are you worried about the fabrics shrinking after you finish the quilt? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then you should wash the jelly roll - carefully! If you're not sure about shrinkage or dyes running, you could test the fabrics first.

I definitely would not wash either of them, but particularly the jelly roll.

Whilst we'd like to think that these are precision cut, straight along the warp (or weft - I get mixed up, lol), there are enough posts on here complaining about how 'off' jelly rolls are often cut.

If you wash your roll, you might find that it shrinks to such an extent it is no longer usable.

Since part of your fabric is a jelly roll, I wouldn't wash either it or the yardage, treat them both the same.
