When quilting the sandwich together, what size stitch do you start and stop with..instead of backstitching? How many of these stitches do you do?

I have been putting my stitch on 1 and stitching 5 or 6 times. Is that anywhere close to being right??

Thanks for any info you can give me. Until this quilt, I have been back stitching or something like that, but I am trying to do it right this time

Well, when I got no answers here, I called my sister, and she said three stitches at 1 would do it. So that is what I am doing. (I'm sure no one realized I was in the middle of quilting and was waiting for answers. :) )

just check to see if that's the right amount to keep the stitches from coming loose and unraveling- i usually just hold it still and stitch in place a few stitches & make the first few traveling very small. if they come apart it's not enough= if it makes a hard lump its too much

You're are on the right track . the only thing, if you aren't doing it is to bring the bobbin thread to the top with the first stitch. Hold onto both threads while taking the next coulpe of stitches and you are good to go.
peace

I'm really new but I use 0.2 for 4 or 5 stitches to start and end when FMQ.

My machine has a "fix" button and when I press it, the machine does 3 stitches in the same space.
