I just became interested in quilting. I plan to start my first quilt soon. I've been reading a lot on the subject. I have a question I can't find an answer to. My grown daughters just lost their Father, and they want me to use his shirts to make a quilt. I know this will be different than using material. Any tips?

Hi and welcome from Iowa. If the shirts are 100% cotton it will be the same as using any other 100% cotton.

I am sorry for your families loss.

Hello from Huntsville, Al. I've heard of people making quilts from ties also. Sometimes when going thrift store shopping with friends I'll look for shirts that I can use for quilt scraps. It will make a nice memory.

Welcome to the board from Southern California!!

I am sorry for your loss.

Men's cotton shirts are great for cutting up and using in quilts.

If you have any questions or need some help go to Handcock fabrics in Dothan, ask for Sherrie, she teaches classes their and appraises quilts too. Believe she will be opening a new shop/classes in Headland on Feb 19. Open house day I believe. Good luck and a Big Welcome from Altha, Fl. about 50 miles south of Dothan
