The first time I was "reds" or something with red, I wash in cold water and add salt. My daughters running shorts/shirts never faded and did not have to worry about white sections being pink. No,not wool but might work for the red wool you have. Good luck.

I would always buy a wool blanket for $2.99.... I make hand braided wool rugs.. but you could use it for other things as well.. batting, sew a trendy jacket, lap blankets for several, or even cut up for dog beds at the local animal shelter!!

Yes, you can then wash and dry it and use the felted wool in a variety of ways, especially in applique. All of my friends hunt thrift stores for wool items, especially XXL men's sweaters (lots of workable fabric).
