I understand that when you use the yo-yo templates that the edges are turned under when you tighten up the thread, but do the edges ravel when they're washed?

I have not washed mine yet. Still in the making! Good question.

Haven't had any problems with unraveling. When washed, they tend to crinkle more but it isn't a problem (knock on wood).

I HOPE NOT! I have a shoe box full so far. Just do it in my spare time ROFL!!!

I do 'hide the knot' a couple of times so it'll stay closed and secure.

A second thought too - however I put it together -
it'll probably be 'hand soaked/washed' not in a machine.

Yo yos are so much fun!!! I would think that since the fabric is folded inside and is anchored that there shouldn't be any fraying because there wouldn't be any stress on the inside raw edges.

I just made a Chicken quilt that had flat folk art type applique flowers and I used yo yos for it instead. It really made the design pop and the 3 dimensional flowers were very effective and attractive.
