Closed- Summer MerryGoRound Block Swap

Summer block swap open April 1, closes June 1 and blocks due by June 30. Below is the link for the swap, complete with directions for making the block. This block just says *SUMMER FUN* to me. Usual swap rules apply as posted in the Member Swaps forum. Background may be color of your choice. Blades may be in 1930's fabric, or brights, hues of the same color palate, opposites....whatever you desire. Since this block may take you out of your comfort zone (we all need to challenge our skills!), I would suggest that you make a sample block before you commit to the swap. The step by step directions are very nicely done. If you wish to join, pm me, then I will post your name in the thread as a way of tracking. When your blocks are completed, please pm me for addy, and postal instructions.http://www.quiltinaday.com/freepatte...GoRound_12.pdf

This is my practice block. I don't have enough of this fabric to make 11 more. If you just follow all the pictures it comes out right. If I can do it so can you. So sign up now and lets have some fun!

karenpatrick 04-01-2012 06:29 AM

Me too. Wasn't able to do the churn dash one but I will be able to do this one. Can't wait to get started.

Just sent you a PM.

karenpatrick 04-01-2012 06:37 AM

Deb, do you have any idea as to the fabric requirements for the 12 blocks? Don't want to come up short. Thanks.

Deb watkins 04-01-2012 08:52 AM

Karen, on the link posted, it gives the amount of fabric for each block. I guess the best way would be to just multiply it by 12.....let me go to the link and see if I can get an estimate. Now, Linda says she can't open the link. Is anyone else having rouble with this?

DoriDeS 04-01-2012 09:14 AM

DebDebDebDeb I want to make this block too please don't forget me!!!!! I'll make them like next weeekkkkk :o) yippee!!!!

I figured out the yardage. All of these are based on 40 width of fabric. Background - 7.5 square - you will get 5 squares per row, need to cut three rows of 7.5 equals 22.5 inches: Plus 2-1/8 x 16 strips (two needed per block) - you will get two strips per row, need 24 strips, you will need to cut 12 rows of 2.5 (give yourself a little leeway) equals 30 inches. 30+22.5 = 52.5 ....1-1/2 yard should be good. For safety insurance you may want to get 1-2/3 yard for background. This blocks shows only two colors - so based on that - yellow - you will get 5 blocks per row, need three rows = 22.5 =2/3 yard needed, may want to get 1 yard for safety insurance. Blue - you will get 2 strips per row, need to cut six rows = 1 yard, but I would get 1-1/4 yard, again for safety insurance. Now, if you want to put in two colors (split the blue) 2/3 yard of two different colors, and if you wanted to split the yellow as well - 1/2 yard of two colors would be plenty.

Deb thanks for taking the time to give us these measurements. And I had no problem opening the site link just now. :D

No, Island - you are the leader!!!!

Annaquilts 04-01-2012 11:32 PM

Thanks for posting the yardage Deb. I am still on the fence about joining. The block looks hard and I also have a small mountain of quilts I need to quilt. Maybe once I get a handle on some of those I will try and make one sample block. Not yet sure if it is anything I can handle.I will definitely keep on peeking in.

ljptexas 04-02-2012 06:17 AM

Thinking of joining. Are there to be 12 blocks exactly alike? I really like scrappy. Just let me know.

SheriR 04-02-2012 06:25 AM

Annaquilts: Ooooo I hope you join. We'd love to have you!

ljptexas: Hope you join too. :D I live NW of Fort Worth and love scrapy too. Make 12 of the same scrapy block. :D

Deb watkins 04-02-2012 07:33 AM

You can make them scrappy as long as they are all the same scrappy. Perhaps one main color as the base and then scrappy for the others. Background should be the same.

At first, when I looked at it I also thought... HARD...but if you take it step by step, it really works out nicely. And in my opinion (not that it is worth more than a grain of salt lately) I think this way is easier than pp-ing. Don't overload yourself, quilting should be FUN, not a chore.

karenpatrick 04-02-2012 07:55 AM

Deb, thanks for figuring out the yardage. That seemed to be beyond me.

snownannie 04-02-2012 05:31 PM

I think I would like to join in on this one. Can they be any color or just blue's and yellow's? Let me know if you will let me join in.

Sharon, LindaK is having a difficult time opening up the link, and can't seem to get into it even by doing google search. Is there anything on your end that you could do to help?

Deb watkins 04-03-2012 06:02 AM

Snow - you can do any colors for the blades. Even scrappy if the scrappy is alike.

Deb watkins 04-03-2012 11:06 AM

And mariposa is having difficulty as well. hmmm. Don't understand why some can open the link and some can't. If all else fails, go to google.com, type in eleanor burns quilt in a day merry go round. It is the first (link) and then when that is opened up, it is the third pattern.

Deb watkins 04-03-2012 11:07 AM

Krisb and lklos303 have joined.

islandwiz1 04-03-2012 11:13 AM

Deb, Just to get everything straight we can do any colors? Does it have to include a yellow.

SheriR 04-03-2012 12:08 PM

Sometimes if I can't open something on one pc my husband says to try a different on and it works.

sharon b 04-03-2012 02:13 PM

All I can do is repost the link

http://www.quiltinaday.com/freepatte...GoRound_12.pdf

Usually if it won't open on a computer - it has to do with the individual settings on the computer- not the link itself , sorry I can't be of more help ....

Deb watkins 04-03-2012 03:52 PM

Island, they can be any color(s) you want. Just as long as all 12 are the same. I just broke down the colors to make it easier if one was doing two colors or wanted to do 3....have at it on this block. Anything goes!

SheriR 04-03-2012 04:33 PM

OOOOO BOY!!! Just got home from my favorite quilt store (dodging tornados...LOL) I found the most cute prints. I can't wait to start sewing!!! And the link just opened for me again, on my pc, not the laptop...

islandwiz1 04-03-2012 04:44 PM

Just found out I was two blocks short of one color so now my twelve blocks will have three colors. I just love this pattern!
