My BIL who is a veterinarian has warmed me about letting threads get on the floor (especially long ones) as our sweet fur babies can ingest them and it does terrible things to their intestines. Also, threads can wrap around the backs of their tongues. I now wipe the floor after every sewing session.

I always clean the thread and snippits of fabric off the floor every day that I sew. I have 2 kitties and I don't want them to swallow the thread. A friend of mine had a beautiful Himalayan cat that swallowed some thread and it wrapped around her intestines. The vet did surgery, but it was too late to save her. So I always run the swiffer over the hardwood floors and get all the threads off of the sewing cabinet. It only takes a few minutes and I want to protect my fur babies..

Ditto!! But seriously, I am pretty neat about trimming seams and threads as I go along (small lunch bag/trash bag right by machine). And I vacuum when I do the rest of the house. No pets or small children at this point, so don't have to worry about threads causing harm. I end up with fabric spread out around me but love looking and touching it, so it doesn't bother me.
