I've been sewing from my stash for the last 1 1/2 years. I like to shop from my stash first -- and that is easier since I organized all my fabric. Doing that reminded what I had and now that it is all color coordinated it is easy to find what I want. I've only bought fabric for a specific quilt. Works for me!

I have a little stash of the leftover pieces which I cut into 1 1/2", 2 1/2" strips, 5" squares and 3 1/2" squares after I finish a project, the only fabrics I keep a stash of and by that I mean a few yards, is neutral blenders, such as white, cream, navy and black. Otherwise I buy as I go along

I have so much stash that I am embarrassed - I had a lot, then my BFF passed away and I got all of hers. Before I got hers the floor in my sewing room collapsed - old floor in an added on room. So, DH had to get a friend out here (in the country) and build me a room in our garage to hold all of the fabric. My DH told him to make the floor extra sturdy as I would fill that room with my fabric - which I did in a hurry. He even built me floor to ceiling shelves to hold all of my Rubbermaid see-through totes that I had to buy to put all of my fabric in. I am still sorting my BFF's stash and incorporating it into mine. Huge job. I hate that my fabric is so far away from my sewing room. But, I still hoard it and keep buying more.

I do have too much as stash, however when I organize, I put into tubs that fabric that is calling out for charity quilts, and when people give me cordoroy, I make school bags for my church. I think just keeping it organized it is huge thing. I also make quillows for the graduating seniors at my church for my daughters memorial, so that fabric is usually 2.5 yards, so that is kept separately in space bags. Every year I make a tshirt quilt for the band boosters at our school, and the music fabric, tshirts, etc, are all kept in a space bag too. This way, I know where everything is.

I don't have a stash, I try and buy exactly the amount I need, although I usually have a little leftover. I don't have the room to have a stash, plus part of the fun of quilting to me is picking out fabric for a new pattern, so I have never done a scrappy quilt.

Me. I also don't have a real stash, only scappys that grow up to a mountain.
I buy a little bit more of what i need for a project and keep the usable scraps in several boxes.
Till now it happened just a few times that i have seen a fabric I NEEDED to buy just because I knew that I would die for it. And also I have some fabrics here and every time when i watch them, i say to myself: What the hell were you thinking to buy that back then? :)

I have an average sized stash I would say. Quite a few FQ and lots of scraps, a few larger pieces for borders and backings. I think I value the scraps more than the rest because I make scrappy quilts and it is my palette to draw upon. The cost of fabric here in Australia keeps most people's stashes under control.

I have a very large collection. I'm starting on my 4th (100 count) package of comic boards that I use for anything over a yard (most is over 2 yards and lots over 4 yards). My theory buy now while I can afford it.

I'm on my 4th too (although most are FQ and small yardages) but on another thread someone said they were on their NINTH. So I feel much better about my stash now.
