Hi Johans, I know this was a question last March so don't know if you found what you needed or not.
My husband makes & sells the foam core boards, acid free, you can order any size you want from him just send me PM with questions. 50 to a set and very very inexpensive beside. He gives pricing on the sizes you need. what sizes were you looking for? I use the (4X6) for fat quarters and 2 1/2" strips the (6X9) are great for 1/2 yards. The next size is (10X6 1/2.) The next one is (10X15) jigs

Will have to check the dollar store for sure, I did just order 3 on Amazon, they were on sale for $11 so I will have 300, no way I will use all of them...haha

I worked at Michaels for many years, we always called the foam boards, "Foam Core", now I don't know if that is trade name or just what the frame shop called it. I know it they used the 1/8 inch sheets to mount counted cross stitch. I don't think they would use it on cross stitch if it wasn't acid free.
