I painted my rooms a light warm tan. I love it! I was in a lt blue room before. It adds warmth w/o making it dark in my room. Luann

I would go with the brightest white I could find. Being window deprived in my house (literally only 1 window per room) it's always so dark in my house, I even bought a glass screen door to let in some light. I recently snuck in some 100 watt light bulbs into shopping cart (while DH wasn't looking) he is Mr. 60 watt. When I got home I immediately put them in my sewing room ceiling fan WOW!!! I can really really see stuff now!!!
Edit: I don't even have windows in my living room.

Mine is a very pale yellow, but like so many have mentioned here, my walls are so full of stuff that one would never even realize they are painted. I painted the attached bathroom to match, and now it really needs to be repainted, and I can't remember what paint or color name I used. I am such a "never see the picture several years from now", person.
As an example, we have giant (and I do mean GIANT) trees in our yard because we didn't see the "10 years from now" picture. Oh well, the electric company can't see our house from the road anyhow.....

I like the white idea, but not too bright, and I don't think I'd go with anything too glossy. When I redid my room I decided on a light blue (and I'm not really a blue person). It's Glidden that I got at Home Depot. It's called Sea Spray (WGB05). I wanted something light, but not baby-bluish. I have to say the color makes me happy every time I go in there. I also like that it's a completely different color/palette than I have in the rest of the house. Good luck and keep us apprised on what you decide on. And don't forget pictures!! We love pictures...

My sewing room is melody yellow and the ceiling is harmony yellow, which is a paler yellow. The built in cabinets, crown molding and baseboards, windows are white. I have cream colored curtains in the room. The room is cedar panels, which were very dark. Took me 3 years to convince DH that it would look good painted.
