CHAT CLASS, MARCH 2 2008 - CATHEDRAL WINDOWS
#22
the next things we need to do are:
(1) give our windows a good haircut. trim away all the dangling threads. open up the pouches and pull out any loose threads from inside. (you can skip that part if you use a dark background or a background fabric you can't see through. my sample is done in discount grade muslin, so i went hunting for mine.
(2) stuff the pouches with our batting squares. this is not a traditional step in cathedral windows. i just threw it in because i think it adds a nice look and feel to the finished quilt.
(3) whether you stuffed or not, you want to check now to make sure all your pouches are pressed neatly closed.

i'm only showing one window patch. i'll start this project over with bigger squares.
position the window/view/filler patch on point, over a seam that joins two pouches to each other

pin the patch in place, then fold back one of the pouch points and pin to make your little arc.
pin and stitch the arcs to form your windows.
i used a machine blanket stitch in the sample. NO you cannot see it from the back. it looks awful enough from the front!
this technique will obviously take practice, but i think a whole quilt this way would look awesome.
