Default Decided on what quilt to make

I've been thinking about what quilt to make for my niece and her husband. He is an Army Ranger and when I asked her what type of quilt she might like she said she liked my patriotic one. Well... that one is mine. She likes the muted tones with red, white, and blue. I have a FQ set of Brannock and Patek "Remembrance" that would be perfect.

I saw a pattern online last night that I really liked, Two Step by Miss Rosie's Quilt Company. It is only 80" x 80" so I modified and added the borders and a section on the top and bottom to make it 96"x 108". I wanted a bed sized one, not a barely-bed sized. I ordered the pattern even though it was easy to figure out in EQ and ordered 5 yards of the blue with little stars from the Remembrance collection for the borders (luckily found it on sale for $6.25 when everwhere else was $9.50).

This will be a good one to use the printed HST strips from the Print and Sew program too.

Looks better without the patch and block outlines in the picture export from EQ. I'll need to fudge the squares in the borders a little bit so that each corner has a colored square (or try and figure it out in round numbers when it's not so late at night). I adjusted it in EQ so it looks right but it's not 4" squares anymore.

The stars in the middle of the blocks get really lost so maybe they should be in one fabric each.
