I live on an island in the Chesapeake Bay and found out on Friday that we would be forced to evacuate by noon the next day. Floodwaters and rainfall accumulation were big dangers, not to mention the wind. While my parents took the dog and cats to Granny's, I went to stay with a friend who's like a sister for a weekend of fun! My pet rats and foster rats came with me. She and her husband graciously offered us their guest room during the storm.

Fluffy Miss Tasha wanted nothing to do with the ratties and stayed safely downstairs. They terrified her. Such a fearless hunter.

Then things progressed into a quilting, writing, movie-watching tea party in the dining room! Of course my featherweight Anise came with me!

I think we probably had four pots between us, including a fifth little flower ball.

There was also a hearty beef stew bubbling away in the crock pot for seven hours while we had fun. We started it right after breakfast and ate around five.

Rainbow scraps of the tiniest order! Bali Pop are beautiful. I received this roll as a gift from my long-armer for catsitting while she went away.

Miss Anise doin' her thang.

Progress!

Done with that step at last! Gotta love strip-piecing. This will someday be a Bento Box.

Oh yes, and did I mention the BROWNIES?! Substitute chocolate raspberry espresso for the water and add chocolate chips and Ghirardelli raspberry squares to the batter.

Jill took this and said I looked like a mad scientist. MUAHAHAHAHA!

Of course, the storm got pretty intense. We drove around in her new hubby's truck (they were married last month) before the storm hit full-force to get our fill of nature.

After everything was said and done, their long-haired Dachshund Brock just wanted to go outside!

What wonderful friends to give you (and the rats) a safe harbor. Comfort food, warm friendship and caring makes all the difference. Thank you for sharing and I am glad all were warm and safe.

Looks like you had a great time! Glad you stayed safe during the storm, and pray you aren't going home to a mess.

Looks like you made the best out of a difficult situation. Certainly a day to remember. Tell your friend I love her tea-pot.

Your experience aure was better than mine. Irene made lanfall a little ways from here and raged for ever ! ! ! No power, heavy rain and howling wind! Finally on Sunday we began the cleanup and are almost done. Maybe tomorrow will do it :) We are having a storm now too. I am dying to get back to sewing :)
