Jeans Rag Quilt
#41
Great job, I am working on one for my son for Christmas. I used old jeans I bought at garage sales for 50 cents each and used red plaid flannel on the back, did not use any batting in between layers. I have got to finish it today. Will post pics.

This (minus the rag style) is how I did my first quilts back in the 70 & 80s, all from the cut off legs of my kids jeans when they developed a hole in the knees.....boy have times changed.....now a-days jeans are sold with pre-made holes!!!! used blanket for batting & sheet as backing......one son still has his.....

To DJW.
Rag Scissors are made especially for doing rag quilting. They are heavy duty and usually have comfort grip handles. The ones I bought have spring action which really is an advantage when cutting through thicker fabric, especially the repetition required to fray the edges. The blades are much shorter than regular scissors. Good ones are pricey, but there are sales and coupons you can take advantage of. I know Fons and Porter have some, but i don't believe they have spring action. I bought mine at a local quilt shop that accepts JoAnn's 40% coupons. I had done an internet search to see the different kinds and who carried them, but when I saw I could get them locally at a good price, I purchased them. If you plan to make many rag quilts, they are a wise investment. Hope that helps:-)
