My first quilt was a Grandmothers Flower Garden made of out old flannel shirts from all the men in my life. At the time I didn't have a sewing machine and though it would be easy to make. lol.

My first quilt lives in Dallas, TX with my nephew. It has been to Ohio, Florida and now Texas. It is a trip around the world done it homespun fabrics. Hand quilted. The label is a piece of fabric that belonged to his Grandmother who passed away when he was an infant 38 years ago.

    That's your first quilt?!?!?!
    Hand- or machine- pieced?
It's really beautiful. Perfect points. The colors, the setting, the cornerstones.

    Fabulous!

You all have such lovely first quilts. I don't have any of mine. I started making quilts in high school and gave them all away to my friends.

Me too, I don't keep anything I make for myself, always a gift for someone else. I did buy a kit this weekend at the Shipshewana quilt show for a wall hanging that I know no one else will appreciate as much as me so it is mine. Now, to just do it and put others projects away for a moment. ..

I made my first quilt in 1973. It was for my 3 yr old daughter whose "blankie" was falling apart. Someone had given me some large bright polyester squares. I sewed them together and put her "blankie" on the inside. I used a sheet for the backing and tied it. She is 40 now, and still has the quilt. Her kids have used it and it is falling apart. I've offered to fix it for her, but she loves it the way it is! Sorry, don't have a picture and she lives in Colorado.
