Progress photos! After much sewing, picking apart seams, resewing and cutting (ow! I need a heavier-duty rotary cutter) here is state of the quilt. Each of the blocks is now 8.5" square. So, it is on the small side.

I'm seeking opinions about sashing/border size and color. Any advice very welcome! Again, this is my very first quilt and it is made of baby clothes. This is not going to be a quilt that is used on a bed or anything, so I don't have a specific goal. (I set out to do this a LONG time ago and the little girl is now four!)

Mollymct, that is great. You needd to decide firstly, how big you want this to be,currently it will be 24"X 40" as a finished centre. I would put a solid color border of about2"next, followed by a 5"-^' patterned border, using a single fabric from the blocks, if there's any left, or a scrappy border made from all the fabrics used in the centre.
Whatever you decide, it's looking good, and 4 year olds love quilts, especially when it's all theirs.
Goodluck with the rest of it.

I love the idea of a scrappy border! I will have to see what I have left. These fabrics are all baby clothes, but I have some leftovers. I am afraid I wasn't thinking beyond the squares so I am sure I chunked some perfectly good pieces. :(

Very pretty and I like lindyline's suggestion of a plain and then a patterned border. Do you have enough of your fabrics to make a piano keys outside border?

I'm going to have to look through my leftover pieces and see what I can put together! That will mean a lot more fabric stabilizing, too!!

Do you think "no" to sashing?

I don't think it needs sashing. I like it without.
