I have been looking for a Singer treadle and I found this on the army base where my husband is stationed at the thrift store. I paid 100.00 for it which I hope wasnt to much but I fell in love with it. I looked up the serial number and it was made in 1916 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
The sign on the machine said it can be fixed. All the parts work and came with the original drawers I believe it needs a belt. I'd like to restore the wood and iron . but I have no idea where to start or the do's and don'ts... so please ladies and gents don't hold back on the advice and website/resources. I can see this becoming an obsession so if I can restore it to working order then i'd like to buy more ;)

I just purchased my (first) treadle, it is a "Red Eye" same as yours!
My husband has been helping to restore. He did sanding for me on the wood, and I did the restoring of the machine itself...
PM me if you need more help or any questions!
I have it our family room so I can eventually use while watching TV with husband!
He was playing with my treadle and snapped the belt, so will have to wait untill new belt arrives to use! :(
You will love to play with it!
Regards! Cathay

just a hint ladies...you can use the leg of a pair of pantyhose as a temporary belt. I need another belt for one of mine but really wanted to use it. Works like a charm.

oh good - it has a metal "Pitman Rod" - you don't have to worry about a wooden one being all dried out and breaking...

You can make a replacement wooden one but it's a pain...

That's another item on a list of things to look for - a metal pitman rod......

That's like my redeye 66. Does it have side clamping or back clamping feet?
