keepsakequilting.com has about the best selection of 30's repro solids that I've seen. I have mixed them with both repros and original feedsacks, and they match very well.

Beautiful quilt...you are so luck to have this connection with a family member.

I went upstairs and looked in one of my very old pattern books and it is closest to the Bethlehem star because it has the hexagon center. Which was almost exact to this block. A search on line resulted with the closest I could see was a star of david block.
My grandmother also made one like this. It is very interesting isn't it? I think like someone else said, it depends on which area you come from what the name of it is.

Thank you all for the wonderful advice and sources to follow-up on. I will certainly post a picture when it is finished but it may take a while as I am very new to this.
