I think it is the seams not being pressed the right ways, I'm sorry I don't live close to help you I live on the other side of the country ;) I'm a beginner too well I've been sewing for about 7 months now, and joined a quilting club and the ladies there have taught me so much!

I am gonna try to join one out here too wait til I get back from my brothers wedding and check some out. Just need to find someone in Vegas to teach me I do better with hands on teaching.
