Robert Kaufman is going to have a small group of fabrics based on the character Maxine.

What do you think? Did Kaufman make a smart business decision? Does Maxine have enough appeal that they'll turn a profit? Or should they have invested in someone... shall we say, more cheerful?

Here she comes:

I can see these in a quilt for a teenager! (Don't tell my kids I said that...)

Marjpf 01-19-2010 03:10 PM

Personally I am not big on sarcasm (I grew up with far too much of it) but I know many others find her quite funny.

beachlady 01-19-2010 03:10 PM

Kind of cute, but what would you use them for? I know.....make postcards out of them.

butterflywing 01-19-2010 03:11 PM

maxine is a funny character, but her appeal is limited, imo. if she was a brand-new character it would be more appealing. but she's old news. also, the offset panels make that fabric hard to use. what would you use it for if you were doing something with it?

Oklahoma Suzie 01-19-2010 03:12 PM

I like her, but don't think I would use the fabric.

thequilterslink 01-19-2010 03:18 PM

Oh i love it, will definetly be looking for that fabric

Favorite Fabrics 01-19-2010 03:19 PM

See? That's just why I like to post pictures here! Just 'cause the fabric makers come out with something *really different* doesn't necessarily mean that it's a good idea, or that it will sell.

Ok, here's an idea. A pillowcase, to bring sweet dreams. For someone you... really like.

Oops. Sorry, Marjpf! That was more sarcasm, wasn't it?

Ditter43 01-19-2010 03:31 PM

I am a great grandmother and I LOVE Maxine. I may think it, but Maxine doesn't care who knows what she is thinking! Sour lemons are not my way, but I can appreciate the sentiment!
I'm sure I will do a few wall hangings from that fabric!!

Robert Kaufman certainly doesn't need my money...but, he'll be getting a bunch of it when this becomes available! Maxine is probably TOO REAL for most...but for some, she's got it all goin' on! I can't wait to sew up some totes and decorate a shirt or two!

jljack 01-19-2010 04:22 PM

Oh man, this is right up my alley!!! LOL ;-) I can see large tote bags made of this for older ladies to take shopping, or carry sewing projects, or for walker bags, or for shoe bags for suitcases. I love this!!!

littlehud 01-19-2010 04:22 PM

I like Maxine but I'm not sure I would make a quilt out of her.

cindyg 01-19-2010 04:46 PM

I love Maxine. There is no pussy-footing around with her, you know exactly how she feels about things. I'm sure some creative people will come up with great ways to use the fabric.

Sugarpumpkin 01-19-2010 04:49 PM

My MIL LOVES Maxine! LOL

jewelps 01-19-2010 05:38 PM

I would love to have some of that material to make a wall hanging for the office or work place

Shemjo 01-19-2010 06:11 PM

I can see lots of uses for the Maxine fabric. I, too, grew up with too much sarcasm, but I still think she is right on!

Teacup 01-19-2010 06:39 PM

Tote bag! I think this would be a fun tote.

AmyS 01-19-2010 06:45 PM

I love it! Would make great quilted journal covers!

sewjoyce 01-19-2010 06:50 PM

I just love that second panel and the matching "blah, blah, blah" fabric. How fun would that be to make a lap quilt!!

tigger5464 01-19-2010 07:26 PM

Somehow it seems that Maxine has the sentiments that most think but are afraid to give their voice to. My mother, sister in law and I all love her sarcasm, but we didn't have a lot of that at our house growing up...so I can understand where others come from on that point. Thank you for posting this.

joeyoz 01-19-2010 07:32 PM

I LOVE Maxine! LOL

Lisanne 01-19-2010 07:33 PM

Maxine is hilarious, but I wouldn't want her on a quilt. I'd buy some of those on a T-shirt, though.

Tippy 01-20-2010 01:52 AM

I'll be getting enough for 3 or 4 quilts. She is VERY popular with my sisters and I.

katier825 01-20-2010 02:45 AM

I love Maxine! Don't know what I'd make with it though.

watterstide 01-20-2010 04:26 AM

I love Maxine! they fabric is a hoot!

make a wall hanging in your sewing room or make them for the office and sell them

cande 01-20-2010 06:30 AM

I would use it; there's some people in my family who would think it was hilarious and others that wouldn't. And I think a tote or wall pangings would be great. Or even cut and put in small picture frames or those magnetic frames that come in 4"X6" sizes, would be cute on the frig. Of course, it's ahrd by looking at the sample just how big each is.

montanaquilter 01-20-2010 06:34 AM

it's okay i wouldn't buy it. it would be great for specific projects like totes and wall hangings but really how many ppl are going to be doing that? can't see it being a HUGE seller. Just my 2 cents though

iamsogone 01-20-2010 06:37 AM

love her have a few friends that this will fit just fine not my style but definitly theres to funny

The statement is so true. My sister would love a quilt from it or a pillowcase.

butterflyquilter 01-20-2010 08:51 AM

I love Maxine!! I definitely would buy the fabric. When is it coming out?

Sharon - NC 01-20-2010 08:55 AM

Love her. Would buy the fabric.

You could get the panel and then applique on t-shirts or anything else you wanted.... :D

Shibori 01-20-2010 10:50 AM

I love the blah blah fabric for backing. My GD is at the babbling stage so I tease her and tell her all you say is blah blah blah.....pretty soon she's going to be saying that to her mommy and daddy.

momto4 01-20-2010 12:26 PM

I love that fabric. She is so funny and says what we have all thought at one time or another. My son also says "blah blah blah" all the time...part of a family joke, so that fabric is perfect.

sewjoyce 01-20-2010 01:07 PM

Do you have this in stock yet???? :D

MadQuilter 01-20-2010 01:46 PM

I would have to make a set of flash cards and carry them aroung to flash anyone who offends me. HA! a card for every occasion.lol

zennia 01-20-2010 01:53 PM

I love her. I can see a tote made of this fabric. As you get older you appreciate her more.

Favorite Fabrics 01-20-2010 07:12 PM

The manufacturer says the Maxine fabrics will be shipping to stores in May. It's pretty common for fabrics to be up to a month late, though.

One of my co-workers also is a lunch lady in an elementary school. She plans on making a vest out of the "blah blah" fabric, to wear in the cafeteria!
