I blame Eddie for getting me started on this one. Last month he posted that beautiful bargello Surf Song. I just had to order the book and try one myself. They're a lot of fun and I imagine I'll make more in the future. I have some regrets on my fabric choices but I know better now about what I'm looking for so the next one should flow a little nicer. Still having some trouble with wavy borders, and these borders needed mitered corners so there was another challenge, but in the end it wasn't a total disaster so I consider it a success. :)

I challenged myself to do more free motion than a meandering stipple so on the main part I did vines with leaves. The small border has a lace like pattern and the outside has a simple string of flowers. I'm proud that I made myself step out of my "safe zone" and try something different. Sorry about the flash on that picture. My pictures were coming out with a weird blue hue so I used the flash. I didn't remember until I was back inside that I had my white balance set on "inside".

On to the next project!

Beautiful!!!! I love bargellos! Definitely on my to-do list, for MYSELF!!! I love this specific pattern - kind of a cross-over, or a link I guess. I think some of them are even called Links bargellos. Love the colors, and the quilting is great!!!

CrystalKicks 02-25-2010 11:04 AM

I think its goegeous!! The piecing and the quilting!!

BKinCO 02-25-2010 11:12 AM

k3n 02-25-2010 11:16 AM

Rachel that is gorgeous! I too have a bargello pattern and a stack of batiks waiting on me, just waiting for some black fabric that I ordered! And THAT's Eddie's fault too with his Surf Song! LOL

OMG Rachel, your quilt is gorgeous! And I love your quilting. Your color choices for the quilt are perfect IMO and the patterns you chose for quilting work great with it. It sure looks like you have lots of experience in FMQ! Glad you're making such good use of your new Bernina 440. :D

Absolutely stunning! Did the BSR work ok for you? or did you do this without? Either way I am drooling all over my keyboard! I soooo want to make one of these. Right now I have stalled on my first attempt which is a spring themed piece which I think I will use for a wall hanging....if I ever get it done. lol

Can't wait to see your next work of art! How you do this..and with little ones is beyond me....Keep up the beautiful work!

JLD 02-25-2010 11:49 AM

I can't wait to see your finished one! I know it's become a total pain in the rear for you but it's going to be worth it when you have a gorgeous finished project!

I used a few batiks in this one and actually that was my first time working with batiks. I'm not totally decided if I like working with them, but they're so pretty I'm sure I'll use them again, many times, down the road. I bet a bargello made totally with batiks would be gorgeous. Make sure and post pics when you finish yours!

KBunn 02-25-2010 12:51 PM

Your bargello is beautiful...and you should be proud of yourself for stepping out of that comfort zone we all find ourselves in. I too have a bargello planned for DH....he is always drawn to them when I show him pics even though he wouldnt know what one was if I called it that. He just knows what he likes.

belmer 02-25-2010 12:52 PM

It's just gorgious, the piecing and the quilting are terrific, You must be very proud of yourself.

2 Doods 02-25-2010 12:53 PM
