My First Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I posted a couple of days ago that I was a quilting addict but I was afraid to actually quilt because I didn't think I could make a "perfect" quilt. I was giving a lot of encouragement from you ladies and was told to go for it. This is a picture of a quilt I made months ago at a quilting class. It is far from perfect and I think that is what caused my hangup. It has lots of mistakes so please be gentle. ;-)

looks fine to me. You are too hard on yourself.

breezyquilts 07-01-2012 01:46 PM

It is beautiful!!! Remember, it's ok to not be perfect in every way. Mary Poppins was nearly perfect :-)

Quilt Novice 07-01-2012 01:57 PM

It's beautiful!

LivelyLady 07-01-2012 02:12 PM

Great job.

sewsewquilter 07-01-2012 02:17 PM

Not sure were you're mistakes are, it looks lovely to me. I have been quilting for years. I still make mistakes...I mean my little signatures, that marks the quilt as created by me. :) lol

Liz92B 07-01-2012 02:23 PM

reminds me of strawberry shortcake - looks great!!

momto5 07-01-2012 02:57 PM

I don't see any mistakes...I see a finished quilt that's gorgeous!

Marilynsue 07-01-2012 02:57 PM

None of your "imperfections" show in this picture. It is beautiful. Keep going, each project will be better than the last.

alfosa421 07-01-2012 03:38 PM

Really pretty love the colors

Neesie 07-01-2012 03:58 PM

Looks fine, to me. . . and I'm even wearing my glasses! :) It's beautiful!

helou 07-01-2012 04:13 PM

It is beautiful! I really like this pattern and the colors that you chose!
From here I don't see any mistakes... when we make something we tend to look at it with a magnifier... back up a little more and you will find it gorgeous!!! Congratulations.

leatheflea 07-01-2012 04:18 PM

Looks like a winner to me, much nicer than my first!

Arleners 07-01-2012 04:27 PM

When you are the quilt's creator, you know where you struggled with the pattern, or fabric. You have spent hours with your nose right into the piece. You will learn from each quilt, but I bet the time you feel there are no mistakes will be rare. That's just human nature.

For us onlookers, we see the overall effect. In this case, it is lovely. Be proud.

nannyrick 07-01-2012 04:44 PM

I think it looks great!!! You did a wonderful job.

joysewer 07-01-2012 05:25 PM

It looks great!!

Pilgrim 07-01-2012 05:35 PM

I think it looks great. You are being too hard on yourself. It only gets better with more practice. That's what I tell myself.

Tweety2911 07-01-2012 06:06 PM

Lovely quilt! You did a great job on it!

Jingle 07-01-2012 06:26 PM

Lots great to me. I have been trying to make a perfect quilt, ain't happening. I'm working on my 105th and nowhere near perfect yet. I figure if I keep trying I may get closer. The goals we set for ourselves!!!

simply addicted 07-01-2012 06:36 PM

If any of us are perfect it would be a miracle you keep sewing girlfriend I am sew proud of you!

BSKTLOFR-QUILTER 07-01-2012 06:37 PM

I have decided that the perfect quilt will never be made by me. The fun is to continue trying. Every quilt I touch no matter how hard I strive just seems to take on a life of it's own so I just go for it. Then when it's finished is when I start to cringe. Welcome to the quilter's club. Looks to me you'll be starting another one or two very soon. You see a piece of fabric and before you know it, another one is started. Keep quilting.

DogHouseMom 07-01-2012 06:38 PM

I think its very pretty, and if you really dont like it, I can give it a good home!!!

Diane007 07-01-2012 07:05 PM

IBQLTN 07-01-2012 07:23 PM

Love it! You did a great job.

debcavan 07-01-2012 07:32 PM

How many years later, mine aren't perfect, but they are appreciated, enjoyed and bring beauty to the world. Wow that is quite a hard pattern for a first quilt. And to me it looks perfect. Done is best.

kayluvs2quilt 07-01-2012 07:38 PM

Not only is the quilt beautiful - but the block next to it is outstanding!
Keep up the good work!!!!

Grandma Peg 07-01-2012 07:44 PM

AlamoAA 07-01-2012 07:51 PM

I am so glad to hear that there is no perfect quilt as non of my would qualify that is for sure. I am a quilterwannabe and may die one. And I am ok with that.

javin22 07-01-2012 08:28 PM

Fantastic! Boy for a first quilt, It looks like your a seasoned quilter. Great job!

audsgirl 07-01-2012 10:20 PM

You did a great job! You will learn something from every one you make and will improve your skills as you go. All of us are still finding out things we didn't know at the beginning.

Pickles 07-01-2012 10:38 PM

No mistakes that I can see it's lovely!!

Elisabrat 07-01-2012 10:43 PM

I think its very pretty and for a first quilt you sure chose a whole lot of blocks to start with. I see a beautiful quilt that many would be happy to say was their first. Good for you for jumping in and joining all of us here. Its seriously addicting. At least its not fattening as I have yet to figure out how to eat and quilt at the same time. Keep it up and we will look forward to your future quilts.

earthwalker 07-01-2012 10:48 PM

It's a beauty. Don't let self criticism/doubt stop you in your tracks. Just make quilts....each will be better than the last and when you look at your earlier ones, you will smile and think "Wow...this is good, but I've really come a long way".

QuiltB 07-01-2012 11:05 PM

Jeez, do not be so hard on yourself in the future. It looks AMAZING!

Knitette 07-01-2012 11:40 PM

Linda - I can empathise with how you feel about getting things right - I'm a bit (lol) of a perfectionist and have to struggle to let things pass. I'm a new quilter too and am amazed at how much my quilting is improving with practice and the help of the lovely ladies in my group. That said, if a part really niggles me, I redo it - even though others don't notice - but a lot I let go. Your quilt looks lovely and it's only you who might notice any imperfections.

Moonglow 07-02-2012 12:04 AM

Looks fine to me. Love your colour choices. Well done.

Taughtby Grandma 07-02-2012 01:16 AM
