Fantastic! Very well done! I'm sure he's very proud of himself. My brother learned to sew when he was young too and has used this skill to alter his own clothes before he got married and has even made his own tents and awnings for camping! My dad also sews his own clothes. It's great that you are encouraging your son to learn to sew.

The quilt top is pretty amazing for a first. I think it's wonderful that quilting has become an activity for both sexes. I am teaching my DH to quilt and he requested to learn to make his own fleece jackets. I usually make 2 or 3 every winter for around the house so now he can make his own!

Awesome!! You are doing a great thing -- and so is he. And don't forget to lead him to the vintage section of the board so he can learn to service (and perhaps repair) his own sewing machine. When my son was a senior he needed to choose an elective. He chose Home Economics. The wonderful teacher had a class of boys. She taught them to service their machines and then allowed them to choose things for them to make with the sewing machines. One of the things my son chose to make was a set of cloth-backed vinyl covers for his guitar amps. He is now very comfortable with using the machine to mend his clothes, etc. I echo the thought that someone else had to lead your son to the male quilters on this board and in the field of quilting (Ricky Timms, etc).

He did such a good job! My son does all the sewing in his family and now is working with his daughter 10. Wish we lived closer. So good for you and good for him! I've always called that "bachelor survival training"!
