Gorgeous and so many beautiful stitches to show off your handiwork. What an heirloom for someone.

The pieces were foundation-pieced, then I embroidered each square separately before jointing them into the quilt. I started with 10.5 inch squares but with fraying, the squares had to be cut to 9.75.
I tried not to embroider into the seam area since I was concerned about it getting bulky at the seams.

All the embroidery was hand done. I tried to repeat colors and patterns to give a sense of continuity to the whole thing.
The tying was done with as small a stitch as possible to avoid it taking over against the embroidery. That's partly why I did so much tying - I did not want there to be stress on too few ties.

    Thank you!

Someone asked when I started this quilt / how long did it take me.
I originally posted something here in February 2015. By then I had pieced a bunch of squares but had not started embroidering.
Normally I work on one quilt at a time and since we were doing a bunch of house improvements, I really could not work on a second quilt!
So maybe 18 months, start to finish?
Every evening until the 50 squares were done!
Everywhere I went, too - visiting family, the beach…

    Thanks!
    Linda
