Below is a picture of the fabric assortment I have planned for a quilt for my son. Thankfully it's not "baby baby" themed, so if it takes me until the kid's 1st birthday (which is in April, so a definite possibility! ), the theme will still fit for him! haha

Anyway, most of this is fat quarters - the blues and the spaceships/aliens are all FQ's (3 of the Aliens). One of the blues is a 1/2yrd. The orange, red, and yellow are 1/2yrd cuts, the green is 1yrd, and I will probably have about 1/4-1/2yrd of purple too, left over from my D9P - I haven't cut the binding strips yet, so I'm not sure how much I'll have left. I don't plan to use a whole lot of the purple, but it does coordinate with the alien fabric and it's not a feminine purple print.

Obviously, the alien print is the focus fabric. I thought about doing attic windows, but I don't know how to work that with so many other colours! I could do a D9P...but I just finished one of those and want to try something new (even though I LOVE the pattern).

Sooo...What would YOU make with this assortment??

First thing I think I'd do is add a few more dark colors -- darker blues perhaps -- and a few much lighter values as well. You are totally in the medium range of value here, with little contrast except the difference between the colors themselves. Usually a quilt will sparkle more if a wider range of values is used.

Your values of color don't have to actually *be* in the print you are using as your focus fabric, just use much lighter values of one or two of the colors in it.

Beyond that, stars using the various tonal fabrics would give a celestial feel to your aliens. Cute fabric!

A snowball quilt would be cute and show off the aliens. It is an easy quilt. http://www.straw.com/quilting/articles/snowball.html
Its an easy block and you can alternate it with colorful 9 patch blocks makes it even cuter.

I would make snowball and ninepatch or a wonky log cabin a la Quilt Dad - http://www.quiltdad.com/2009/09/quil...bin-block.html

I would fussy cut some of the focus fabric aliens designs, then do some various little log cabin type strips around each one, then sew them altogether & add any other borders to the outside edges. I did this with some cut coffee cup blocks, & it turned out really neat! Nice & bright, but easy & quick too...

I like this idea, and snowballs. Then later you could use it like an I spy quilt. eg: Find the blue alien in a red spaceship. :)

That is a great pattern! From what I can see it's kind of a mix of Warm Wishes with a 9-Patch stuck in there? I really like that idea - leaves a lot of room for my many colours...without being crazy complicated either. I think that might be the one!!
