Is there any hope??? My Great Grandmother's quilt
#1
This is a quilt I just found and wondered what can I do. The whole thing has been done by hand. It's falling apart in some places. I still do not want it destroyed!
Any suggestions...

I love the way she just folded over the binding.

If you are going to carefully display it, you can reinforce the weak and missing spots with a matching fabric, or tack down bridal veil tulle in a matching color. If you want it more stable, you would need to applique a matching fabric right over the block that's damaged. Looking at the condition, I think I would use is as a decorative spread in an area that gets no direct or strong sunlight and that is not too humid.

That is a beautiful quilt, and looks like it was used and well loved for a long time. I have a small quilt made for me by my great grandmother when I was a baby. Some of the fabric is worn--looks like muslin and was probably not very thick. The quilt is about 68 years old. I'm thinking of framing it to protect the fabric.

Love the quilt--it reminds me of the string star quilt I have that my great grandmother made (never knew her). It's in about the same shape, well worn and well loved. I haven't attempted to repair mine, just keep it in my linen chest for inspiration.

Thank you guys so much..I just found another one that's in better shape. I'll have to put a picture of it up later.
I was wondering about downsizing it? I have no experience with this sort of thing. I had never thought about displaying it in a cabinet. That's a good idea.
I have one my mother gave me from the civil war era and my great great great grandmother spun, dyed and made the whole thing. It's very dark.
How I wish I'd listened more to these stories when I was younger!
