My wife and I went to pick up 5 of our nieces and nephews for the week Friday night. On the way through Atlanta we stopped at the Scarlet Thread. We had seen their billboard on the interstate before, but were never through when they were open.

To say this is an awesome shop would be a HUGE understatement. If my wife and I were to open a quilt shop we would hope it would look something like this one. They had lots of bright colors and funky, retro-type patterns. They had tons of patterns and kits, a huge selection of threads, and the shop went on and on with different rooms of fabric and notions.

Since we had a van full of kids, we couldn't stay long, which was just as well. Everywhere we looked we saw something we'd love to use. As it was, we overspent, but justified it since we're technically "on vacation."

    This stashing is an addiction!

    Darren

These 5-packs were $30 each and came with a free pattern.

The Christmas fabric matches nothing we have, but the teal is similar to one of my Grandmother's scraps I've been working on.

They had this quilt on the wall so the kit was irresistable.

The threads will be to quilt nieces' and nephews' quilts. The fabrics are from Blank's Inspiration IV line

Love the kits! did your GKs get to pick out the material?

Will you start them right away, or wait until next week?....You are brave, having 5 kids at one time for a week...I know, my DS has five children, ranging from 11 to 1 year old....

    Frances -

The scheduling is an adventure for us since we don't have any of our own, but the kids are great. They always behave better for us than they do for their own parents. We do this every year. We've had as few as 2 or as many as 7 for a week in the summer. The only real problem is entertaining them all with the age difference, but we have 2 that are 11, one is 9, and 2 are 7. Pray for us this week.

Okay, prayers are on their way.....BTW, because of my goof on not reading well, the "GKs" portion of my last post can mean "Great Kids!"..

Hey Darren, Have a wondeful week with the kids! Had to send a quick note about A Scarlet Thread. It is one of my favorite shops - I just spent a few hours there on Memorial Day and had a lot of fabric fun! Make sure you go online and sign up for their newletter - it's great! They are moving the shop and have just begun to look for a new location.

    Hi Darren and family,

Some of my happiest summer memories of the vacations we took with our aunts and uncles who did not have their own children. We had 2 sets, who were brothers, one was married to my mom's sister and the other married to mom's aunt (they were actually close in ages). They "adopted" all the nieces and nephews each summer. Such happy times for us. They also taught me to love fabrics and sewing.

I know you both are such a blessing the children and their parents. You don't need our prayers, God has already answered them for all concerned.

It looks like you had a great shopping trip! Enjoy this next week with your nieces & nephews. You're exceptional people to take on this many(5) at one time, but rewarding to be sure. The parents get a break and your break comes after next week, lol!

This is my favorite shop in the Atlanta area. I live on the North side of Atlanta so it is a haul down there for me but it is certainly worth it. It is by far the friendliest LQS in the area. I bought several of the bundles when I was there the last time.

    Happy Quilting.
