My first rag quilt...don't know if I'll do another
 

Everyone says that rag quilts are fast & easy...I'm not so sure...my first one was even made with strips...but Oh, how I struggled. It's fully reversible and directional so that was where I had to sew and rip and sew and rip. Then snipping the seams was not fun...I'd bought a pair of spring-loaded snippers which definitely helped but I bought a cheaper pair and paid for it after snipping about a third of the quilt and having to "reset" the snippers after every few cuts...if I ever do another rag quilt, I'm buying a higher quality pair. Also, no one had ever prepared me for just how much lint would be produced in that first wash...Wow!. With all that said and done, I am pleased with how it turned out and gifted it to my mother-in-law for Christmas. Hope you all enjoy seeing it and have more fun making rag quilts than I did.

Despite all the problems it turned out great and will be super snuggly come the holidays!

Question, what brand of spring loaded snipers did you have? I've been looking at getting a pair so it would help me decide which ones.

I actually bought my snipping shears at Lowe's. To find them at Lowe's go to the garden section that has the hand tools. Usually just inside when coming in from the outdoor garden area.

I think it looks great. my scissors are Fiscar. Love that brand.

I've made several rag quilts and slit the seams while watching TV in the evening

I also have Fiskar's snip scissors. I have an old pair that has bent in the middle so only the tips actually cut. I use them to snip threads when sewing. Only problem is sometimes they stick closed. Usually I remember to open the handles when I set them down. I forgot one time and while I was sewing the next seam, they let loose and I had flying scissors. Startled the heck out of me.

Besides being so difficult-I think it is gorgeous and you did a great job on it. Lucky Mother-In-Law.

Your quilt is very pretty. (I am very partial to Christmas fabrics.)
But I had to giggle over your struggle, because I had a similar reaction to the twister quilts. People raved about how easy it was. Luckily I had watched Jenny Doan's tutorial and she said how she had a bit of a problem remembering the order too I would have thought I was a total failure. My friend and I decided to make the Christmas tree version, once we started cutting it out and sewing it back together we were going nuts. I finally finished it - but there was a lot of ripping and resewing along the way.
So glad you persevered and completed your quilt, it is very pretty.
