looking for something - maybe you guys can help

You folks here on the board are always so helpful, I wanted to ask for your help.

my nephew and his wife are expecting their first baby - so of course I am going to make a quilt :)

they have boston terrier that was their first baby so I had the idea of incorporating her on the quilt.

I am just picturing a small block on the back of the quilt - maybe as part of the lable. I saw this on etsy and it seemed perfect. I really like this one... until I read the fine print that it can't be washed

Do any of you have any ideas of where some nice boston terrier fabric can be found? Not cartoony.
I found a pillow cover on Amazon like but its 18" x 18" which is probably too big

any thoughts?

Just looked at your Etsy link. It does say that it can be made colorfast, probably by heat setting it with an iron. Can you ask the seller about it? It's very appropriate for what you want.

18 x 18 would work for me - just center it on the back. What is the fabric? How will it wash? Have you considered a picture of the dog? My son's quilt has a picture of his daughters on the back and it is washing just fine. And that boy is a frequent launderer who over dries things. He does use cold water.

Likewise, I would personalize the quilt with a photo of their own dog.
Plus, why hide it on the back?
Make it the feature, up front, and build the quilt around it.

I have not done it, but I have seen quilts that have actually been pieced to look like an animal, or person, or landscape. are you game to learn how to do it? must be a pattern you could purchase someplace....

I have messaged the seller and I will see what she comes back with.

I have seen quilts where people put pictures on them - so I did think of that. When I have printed my own labels they are not soft (at least they way I tried). Are the custom pictures on the quilts soft?

I like the idea of it being on the back so its a little bit of a surprise. They will look at the quilt front and think that's it and then surprise the puppy will be on the back. I like quilts that have interest on both sides

Your link says you can make it colorfast, but then says it has to be washed on gentle or dry cleaned. This is a baby quilt. It will get washed repeatedly.

So, I would cut the Boston Terrier out of the panel and use the rest somewhere else.

These may be to "cartoony" for you, but there are lots of choices.
