Has anyone made a quilt of just ten inch square pieces?
I am playing with the idea of making a twin sized top with just ten inch square pieces. Has anyone done one like this? I think I saw such a quilt at a Cracker Barrel restaurant and really liked it. I have some sports fabric that has big designs, and I am going to make a quilt for a boy at a Boys' Ranch. I am just having trouble visualizing if the ten inch squares would look good or yucky.
So, if you had made such a thing, did it end up looking okay? I know it would depend on the fabric and all.... Off to google a bit and see if I find any such thing. Dina |

I have. I used 42 blocks so it was 60x70 before borders. I used 7 different fabrics and two borders.
To make one slightly bigger my dh made one that had 2 inch sashing between all the blocks. |
My thought is to lay it out first and see if you like it. Could be nice - - -

I did one that as large rectangles all the same size. Mostly from cut up fat quarters. I'd have to measure to get size. But it was mostly to practice on a new sitdown quilting machine. It's a fun quilt that I use a lot and is usually the one I take on airplane trips.
I think 10 inch squares could be great (also think of offseting them so you don't have to match seams)..... Then think about a fun quilting pattern to overlay them. And make sure you quilt close enough together..... |
There's no reason you can't. I think I'd offset them or sash them, or both. I like the sounds of doing both.

I made this quilt for my husband several years ago, it's his favorite.
It has 8" squares and a 6" border all the way around. https://www.quiltingboard.com/member...952-389898.JPG |
I think the 10" squares would be great, and sew up in a jiffy. I'd be sure to separate busy prints with TOTs or blenders. Might consider a "coin collection" style as an alternative (make the 10" squares into 5x10" rectangles) and separate the columns with a solid or TOT. Takes a lot less piecing time.
